Which NEC Edition Is on the Georgia Electrical Exam
PSI's reference list for the Georgia electrical exams names the 2023 National Electrical Code, and that's also the edition Georgia enforces statewide. The confusing part is the amendment packet's name, which starts with 2026 and has nothing to do with the 2026 code.

The exam is on the 2023 book
The reference list in PSI bulletin 4783 names the Georgia State Electrical 2023 National Electrical Code, or the National Electrical Code Handbook, as the code reference for both the Class I and Class II exams.
The low voltage bulletin names the same edition for all four of its exams.
That matches the state. Georgia's mandatory state minimum standard codes list carries the National Electrical Code, 2023 Edition, with Georgia Amendments, so the book you study, the book you carry in and the book the inspector holds are the same edition.
Why the words 2026 Georgia Amendments confuse people
The document Georgia adopted on January 1, 2026 is called the 2026 Georgia Amendments to the 2023 National Electrical Code. The packet itself is titled Georgia State Amendments to the National Electrical Code, 2023 Edition.
Read that twice. The 2026 in the name is the year the amendments took effect, not the edition of the code. Georgia is on the 2023 book and has amended it.
Two items in that packet don't start until January 1, 2027, both in the health care articles. The amendments page lists every item.
Our questions carry the 2026 numbering
The question sets, the calculators and the labs here are built from the 2026 National Electrical Code.
The rules and the arithmetic don't change with an edition. Section numbers do, and Georgia tests on 2023.
So here's the list. Each line gives the 2026 number first and the 2023 number Georgia's exam uses beside it, from our own record of what moved.
The numbers that moved, both ways round
- Load calculations for branch circuits, feeders and services sit in Article 120 in the 2026 book (Article 220 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- The general lighting unit load for dwelling branch circuits is 120.13 in the 2026 book (220.12 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- The dwelling unit load for feeders and services is 120.41 in the 2026 book (220.41 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Noncoincident loads are 120.6 in the 2026 book (220.60 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- The optional dwelling calculations are 120.82 and 120.83 in the 2026 book (220.82 and 220.83 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Energy management systems are Article 130 in the 2026 book (Article 750 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Overcurrent protection of transformers is 450.5 in the 2026 book (450.3 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Protection against physical damage in the Chapter 3 wiring methods is 300.6 in the 2026 book (300.4 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Wire bending space and deflection of conductors is 312.9 in the 2026 book (312.6 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- The bar on re-bonding the neutral to ground downstream is 250.24(B) in the 2026 book (250.24(A)(5) in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Branch circuits, feeders and services over 1000 volts are spread across Articles 265 through 268 with grounding and bonding at 270 in the 2026 book (all of it in Article 235 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Device type switches were moved into Article 406 in the 2026 book, with the rest of Article 404 staying put (all of it in Article 404 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Switch connections, including three way and four way switching, are 406.30 in the 2026 book (404.2 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Grounding of snap switches and their faceplates is 406.40(B) in the 2026 book (404.9(B) in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- The total degrees of bend allowed in one run of EMT is 358.24(B) in the 2026 book (358.26 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Use of white or gray insulation, which the code reserves for the grounded conductor, is 200.8 in the 2026 book (200.7 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Fire pump voltage drop is 695.8 in the 2026 book (695.7 in the 2023 edition this exam uses).
- Voltage drop for sensitive electronic equipment is 647.5(D) in the 2026 book, one section down from 647.4 in the 2023 edition this exam uses.
- Fixed electric space-heating equipment counted as a continuous load is 424.5 in the 2026 book, and it sits inside 424.4 in the 2023 edition this exam uses.
Several of those old addresses are occupied in the 2026 book by something else, which is the expensive kind of move. That doesn't affect you sitting a 2023 paper, but it does affect how you read any study material written after the new edition.
One number that changed value, not just address
This is the one worth knowing even though you're on the 2023 book.
The 2023 edition carries a single general lighting unit load for dwellings and it's 3 volt-amperes per square foot. The 2026 edition splits it: branch circuits stay at 3 and feeders and services drop to 2.
Georgia's exam is on the 2023 book, so 3 is your figure for both. If you're studying from a course, a video or a book written on the 2026 edition, the feeder and service number you're being taught is not the number your paper wants.
What didn't move
Ampacity is Article 310 in both editions, with the ampacity table at 310.16. Overcurrent is Article 240. Grounding and bonding is Article 250. Motors are Article 430 with the full load current tables. Boxes are Article 314 with box fill at 314.16. Chapter 9 is still the tables.
The health care articles Georgia amended, 517.40 and 517.45, carry the same numbers in both editions we hold, and so do 210.8, 210.12, 210.52 and 230.67. Our record of what moved has no entry for any of them.
So the relearning is concentrated in a short list rather than spread across the book, which is the useful part of knowing it.
How to use 2026 material on a 2023 paper
Learn the rule by subject and treat the number as a lookup rather than as the fact. When a worked answer hands you a section number, find the same rule by subject in your own 2023 book and write that number in the margin.
