Macon has both a training center and a PSI test center inside the city. The apprenticeship at 1046 Patterson Street says it's tuition free, and PSI's Georgia list carries a site on Northside Drive. The license itself still comes from the state.

The license a Macon electrician needs

The license that matters here is the state one. The Georgia Secretary of State's Division of Electrical Contractors issues Class I restricted and Class II unrestricted electrical contractor licenses, and its FAQ says the board licenses electrical contractors, not electricians.

So there's no journeyman card to earn and no city test to sit. You work for a licensed electrical contractor, log four years of installation work under that license, then apply through the GOALS portal and sit the PSI exam.

What Macon-Bibb County handles

Macon-Bibb requires the state card plus a local occupation tax license before a permit is issued, and creates no separate county electrician registration.

Its administrative minimum standard codes document says every contractor and subcontractor making contracts for installation or repairs of electrical systems needing a permit has to comply with applicable state and local licensing rules, and calls for the applicable State Card issued through the Georgia State Construction Licensing Board or the State Fire Marshal's Office, plus a current occupational or business license from a local jurisdiction in Georgia.

IBEW Local 1316 and the Macon Electrical Training Center

The hall is at 1046 Patterson Street, Macon, GA 31204, and the apprenticeship page names the Macon Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Program and the training center at the same address, phone 478-743-7017.

Applicants bring a valid driver's license, a Social Security card or legal work status documentation, a birth certificate, a high school diploma or GED, an official transcript documenting one year of Algebra, a DD-214 where it applies and a $30 application fee, then get scheduled for a proctored aptitude exam.

Central Georgia Technical College

The college carries an Electrical Systems Technology Diploma, a Commercial Electrical Construction Technician technical certificate and a Residential Wiring Technician technical certificate. Its main campus is at 80 Cohen Walker Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.

The test center in Macon

PSI's Macon site is at 3902 Northside Dr, Suite C5, Macon, GA 31210.

PSI lists four Georgia sites: Duluth at 3505 Koger Blvd Suite 175, Marietta at 2100 Roswell Road NE Suite 2128, Macon at 3902 Northside Dr Suite C5 and Tifton at 251 Southwell Blvd Suite A.

Those addresses come from PSI's bulletin for the sister division of the same state board rather than from bulletin 4783, which names no Georgia addresses and says only that the electrical exams run at PSI centers across the Southeast.
